RESEARCH


Objectives of the research programme

 

- Develop analytical, numerical and experimental models of mechanotransduction in native cardiovascular tissues and TE constructs for optimising bioreactor conditioning

 

 

- Establish novel methodologies for monitoring TE constructs maturity, and for assessing the calcification potential and inducing anticalcific resistance to fibrin and decellularised scaffolds for valve replacement/repair, patch graft angioplasty and myocardioplasty

 

 

- Investigate the capacity of MSCs, EPCs and stromal cells to populate and regenerate in vitro and in vivo fibrin and decellularised tissue scaffolds suitable for valve replacement and myocardioplasty

 

 

- Establish novel methodologies for the quality control and preservation of cell-seeded TE valves and myocardial patches for their safe translation to the clinical sector

 

 

- Establish novel methodologies for sterilisation, preservation and durability testing of fibrin and decellularised tissue scaffolds for valve replacement/repair, patch graft angioplasty and myocardioplasty, for their safe translation to the clinical and industrial sectors

 

 

- Use the results to generate guidelines for the fatigue and calcification testing of valvular scaffolds, and the quality assessment and preservation of cell-seeded TE constructs
