TECAS Courses



In addition to their research projects, the TECAS Fellows are also required to attend additional training activities in the framework of a dedicated training programme, which is developed specifically for TECAS. The courses are open to all HBRS students, to the students of Molecular Medicine and potentially to other students upon availability of places. The training programme includes traditional academic courses and engineering-related academic courses such as:


Statistical Analysis:

Introduce some fundamental concepts of Statistics and apply appropriate statistical tests to experimental data.

Biomaterials for Tissue Engineering:

Highlight the applications associated with biomaterials and their biomaterials tissue engineered constructs (scaffolds), understand the concepts of biocompatibility, polymer and biology/biochemistry and investigate the interactions at the interface of material and biological systems.

Principles of Material Mechanics:

Introduce the basic engineering principles required for the analysis of forces and conditions for equilibrium and develop an understanding of the fundamental principles of mechanical analysis and its applications to the general field of biomechanical engineering.

Tissue Engineering Bioreactors:

Introduce the concept of tissue engineering bioreactor and its different typologies, highlight the role of stimuli-specific and tissue-specific bioreactor systems, show the role of multi-stimuli bioreactors in tissue engineering for re-creating a system that simulates physiological environments and show the relevant key issues in bioreactor design and operation by presenting the design of a bioreactor for Tissue-Engineered Aortic Heart Valves (TEHV).
