Hannover Medical School

The Hannover Medical School (Medizinische Hochschule Hannover, MHH), founded in 1965, is one of the world's leading university medical centres. Due to its interdisciplinary research MHH has strong collaborative links with many academic and industrial research organizations worldwide.

 

MHH concentrates its research activities to unravel basic mechanisms which will be, in close collaboration with clinical facilities, translated into clinical research. Building on a broad expertise in medicine, immunology, biochemistry, structural biology, genetics, cell biology and infectiology MHH scientists study human diseases and develop innovative strategies for diagnosis, prevention and therapy. The main research activities focus on transplantation and stem cell research, infection biology and immunology as well as biomedical technology and implants. Two major areas of clinical specialisation are transplant medicine and hearing systems.

 

The outstanding success in interdisciplinary collaboration both within the MHH and with extramural scientific institutions is reflected in the fact that the MHH is the German medical university with the greatest volume of grant funding.

 

RWTH Aachen University

The Excellence Initiative of the German federal and state governments provided a huge boost to the further development of RWTH Aachen University by providing € 180 million of funding in the first approval phase. The institutional strategy on which the successful Excellence Initiative application was based has, in the meantime, been expanded to form a long-term strategy to strengthen all the areas of the University and enhance their profiles. In the process it has gained great momentum, which can be seen, among other things, in the extensive building activities.

 

Visible evidence of this is the RWTH Aachen Campus that is being developed in close cooperation with industry and which is to form one of the largest research parks in Europe. Students and employees of RWTH Aachen will benefit equally from these developments and are expressly invited to get involved in shaping the individual initiatives.

 

The many stimulating ideas already have an impact on the whole urban region of Aachen and the entire tri-border area of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. An innovative knowledge community is evolving that is closely networked with some of the world’s leading research and industry partners.

 

RWTH Aachen is a major driving force behind this development. And Aachen, as a liveable and lovable city at the crossroads of three cultures, provides an ideal environment for this creative process of development.

Eindhoven University of Technology

University of Padua

The mission of the Department of Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Sciences is to foster knowledge of all aspects of heart, lung and vascular diseases. The Department encompasses many complementary areas, closely integrated with each other: cardiology; pneumology; internal medicine, with particular focus on thromboembolic and vascular diseases; environmental health medicine; lung and heart diseases; cardiac surgery; thoracic surgery; vascular-endovascular surgery; paediatric-congenital cardiac surgery; and statistics.
